Best Portable Toilet: The Complete Guide

Hey, guys and gals, my name is Gerald Carpenter, and today we’ll try to figure out which portable toilet is the best. In a situation when there is no stationary closet, such things like portable toilets appear very handy. While camping, driving from one state to another, and basically, in any place where there is no access to the usual sewage system, a small toilet can become a great tool for increasing your comfort.

But when it comes to choosing the best portable toilet, the problem arises: there are not so many reliable products on the market. As a professional plumber, I was not impressed with the vast majority of assortment. But, as it’s said in the Bible, “Seek and you shall find”, that’s why I’d like to come up with my own top 5 of best portable toilets that are worth buying.

Top 5 of the Best Portable Toilets

Reliance Products Luggable Loo Portable 5 Gallon Toilet

Luggable Loo is ready to take everything you got for it. With its 5-gallon capacity and compact size (length: 13.50, width: 13.00, height: 15.56), Luggable Loo (like composting toilets) is a great option for camping, fishing, hunting, and other activities in the wilds. You can place a kitchen bag with cat litter or double bag at the bottom of the toilet in order to dispose of your dirty deals afterward. Another great advantage of Luggable Loo is its weight: only 3 lbs.

Pros: Cons:
  • Easy to use and clean;
  • Compact size;
  • Low weight (3 lbs).
  • Not very comfortable seat.

Palm Springs Outdoor 5 Gal Portable Outdoor Camping Recreation Toilet

Here is the first big guy on our list. This outdoor toilet has a tank with 3 gallons of fresh water, as well as a waste tank with a 5-gallon capacity. When empty, this flush toilet weighs about 9.5 lbs, plus 3 lbs when filling the fresh water tank. Reservoirs are protected from leaks due to high-density polyethylene used for manufacturing. In order to throw the disposals, dispatch the bottom container, take off the cap and pour your poo off. You can wash the tank with special disinfector before the next use.

Pros: Cons:
  • Fresh and waste water tanks of great capacity;
  • Flush option;
  • Comfortable seat.
  • There can be problems with flush handle after some period of time.

SereneLife Outdoor Portable Toilet with Carry Bag

SereneLife Outdoor Portable Toilet is on the Amazon best rated portable toilet list. I also pick this one for my own Top 5 for several reasons. First of all, it is distributed with a special carrying bag for comfortable transportation. Secondly, SereneLife toilet has a huge waste tank with a capacity of 5.3 gallons. The tank itself is made of odor-resistant components that reduce the unpleasant smell.

Pros: Cons:
  • The special carrying case is included;
  • Easy to use;
  • Great waste tank capacity (about 5.3 gallons).
  • The cleaning process can be tough.

Porta Potti White Thetford Corp

Porta Potti portable toilet made by Thetford Corp has a great design that resembles aircraft closets. It has some useful features too, like toilet paper holder and tank level sensor with visual indication. I personally love the idea of the ergonomic handle: with its help, this toilet can be carried like a suitcase. The waste tank can be easily emptied without any splashes. Also, the wastewater reservoir is quite big: 5.5 gallons. And the freshwater tank has about 4-gallon capacity, which is enough for approx. 60 flushes.

Pros: Cons:
  • Huge waste water tank (5.5 gallons);
  • Compact size;
  • Ergonomic transportation handle;
  • Comfortable elongated seat;
  • In my opinion, it’s the best portable camping toilet.
  • A lot of owners have issues with the pump.

Camco 41545 Travel Toilet

This portable toilet has a 5.3-gallon waste tank, just like SereneLife Outdoor model. But Camco toilet weighs more: approx. 11.5 lbs when empty. Maybe this is due to the use of durable ABS resin for some parts of this toilet. However, resin makes this toilet even more robust than other competitors on our list.

Pros: Cons:
  • The toilet carcass is resin-protected;
  • Big waste tank (5.3 gallons);
  • Comfortable seat.
  • Some owners experience leaks (especially in the cool weather).

How to Choose Portable Toilet?

When pondering over the question of which toilet to choose, you should think of the main tasks that will be set during its operation. If the main condition is the simplicity of its transportation in the process, then, of course, you need to look for the most lightweight model. But if you try to find the best portable toilet for the van, then the first thing you have to look for is water tanks capacity and the device’s height.

From the very beginning of my best portable toilet research, I was quite skeptical about such devices and their quality. I don’t trust the vast majority of Amazon retailers due to the fact that there are tons of con artists out there who wants to sell useless pieces of plastic. Choosing one of the above-mentioned toilets, you can be sure that you are actually buying a worthful device. Please, share your experience with portable toilets in the comments below, or tell me about devices you consider the best. I’ll be glad to hear from you. Thanks for your attention!
